Missouri Governor Tries to Overturn Prop C, Backdoor Obamacare

Timothy Birdnow

Dana Loesche is reporting on her radio show that Missouri governor Jay Nixon tried to backdoor Obamacare in flagrant violation of state law and the will of the People.

Last year the people of Missouri, in an astounding repudiation of Obama's health care law and the individual mandate in particular, approved by over 70% Prop C, which nullified Obamacare in the Show-me State. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/08/victory_at_c.html

But the Democratic Party establishment - in particular Governor Jay Nixon - were not happy and have been plotting to thwart Prop C quietly. Nixon could have announced it's implementation by executive order, but the constitutionality of such a move would be suspect and would likely have been politically lethal.

So Nixon pulled an amazingly dirty trick; he established a secret commission designed to accept the 21 million dollars the Feds have been dishing out to states and begin implementing the exchanges.

The irony is that the Missouri Senate was in session listening to a presentation by the CATO Institute about a loophole in the Obamacare law; failure to establish those same exchanges would nullify the law. A collection of Senators, including Jim Lembke and Jane Cunningham, received word that this secret committee - Missouri Consolidated Health - was about to vote on establishing the health exchanges and get the ball rolling. Moving quickly, they stormed the meeting and forced the renegade committee to table the proposal. Had they not been in time the committee would have approved the creation of the exchanges and would have petitioned the federal government for the money to set them up.

Lembke appeared on The Dana Show this afternoon explaining these events, as did Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder.

This is a shocking abuse of power, and, in my humble opinion, is grounds for impeaching the governor. At the very least this needs to be disseminated widely, so that Nixon may meet the fate of his namesake.

The Missouri legislature is considering a couple of other proposals that are quite controversial at this time as well; there is a proposal to fund embryonic stem-cell research (despite the abject failure of this research and the fact that it is now possible to turn other cells into pluripotent embryonic cells without the necessity of cloning and killing the clone) that has been causing a ruckus. Also, St. Louis is being considered for a hub for the Chinese, who will require large amounts of warehouse space to store products being imported to the U.S. and exported abroad. The state is trying to finance these warehouses with tax credits and the like, and many conservatives are really angry about it. Clearly, Nixon thought he could pull this dirty deed off while nobody was looking.

But he has been caught - this time. Unfortunately, there is nothing to prevent him from trying it again.

Keep a sharp eye on this story; it will likely explode in the next few days.
