Life, Liberty, and Property
I haven`t had much to say on the recent Kelo decision in which the Supreme Court ruled that federal courts have no interest enforcing property rights. I have remedied that in the American Thinker today.
How the Supremes could issue such a ruling is beyond me; Property Rights are the cornerstone of all civil rights.

Tim, this is by far the best column on property rights that I have read anywhere, and Herb Meyer agrees -- he left a comment on my site where I had linked your article. To have a look. What a great job -- and how much history you bring in -- how do you remember all this stuff or even know where to look to find it? I had never heard of the old Roman law on property and certainly had no idea of the idea of property rights going back as far as Judaic law.
BTW -- I heard on Rush's show today that there is some businessman in NH who has filed real papers with the local municipality to the effect that he wants to seize Souter's property and turn it into the Liberty Hotel, with a museum on the grounds to our rights. I think Rush has linked the site on his website.
This issue has so galvanized the nation -- liberal and conservative alike that finally maybe the population has woken from its slumber. The question is, what can we do about it?
A well-supported article! Would somebody please inform the Supreme Court of the truth about property rights?
Tim, I have to agree with all the other comments, that this is the best and most informative article I've yet read on this outrageous ruling. I too had no idea of the long history of property rights, nor how important they have been down through the ages. I was particularly struck by the discussion, both yours and Bob Weir's, about the true meaning of the property tax, which, since you can never pay it off, guarantees that I can never really own my home. Also I had to wonder how things would have evolved if Ben Franklin had not deleted the word "property". By the way, I found your blog via Aussiegirl's marvelous Ultima Thule, the blog I visit first of all. I've looked through your archives and found a lot of other interesting posts, particularly those concerning global warming. I plan to keep visiting your blog regularly.
