March 1914
Iran has test fired missiles which could strike Israel, and once again we are treated to Jimmy Carter-esque style diplomacy; vague, toothless warnings of dire consequences and the completely impotent threat of U.N. sanctions.
Condoleeza Rice (who is in a job completely over her head, if you ask me) had this to say:
Asked about Thursday's maneuvers, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she thought the Iranians "are trying to demonstrate that they are tough."
"The Iranians also I think are not unaware that the security environment is one in which if they actually were to do something Iran would suffer greatly and so I think they probably understand that," Rice said on the Bill Cunningham radio show on WLW Cincinnati.
"They are trying to say to the world you are not going to keep us from getting a nuclear weapon," she said. "The world has to say to them, yes, we will."
No, Doctor Rice, the WORLD won`t do a blasted thing about this! This is our problem. Our supposed allies have shown themselves to be cowards, Dhimmis who will sacrifice their only child for the promise of peace with the Jihadists. Too many of our alleged friends-like the Russians-actually WANT Iran to develop these capabilities, because they think the Iranians can act as a counterweight to American hegemony. Putin and his gang of thugs certainly believe that (read his comments in Russia) and most of them hate Israel, so a nuclear Iran with medium range missiles doesn`t bother them.
The Russians have certainly been untrue lovers, as have our oldest friends, the French, who take every opportunity to screw us just to prove they still can. Ditto the Germans. The Chinese certainly have no love for us, and the goings-on in North Korea is not about a ``rogue state`` but a client nation being used as a proxy against us. If we do not face these facts, we are going to drive over a nuclear precipice. WE have to deal with this!
If we do not, Israel will. There are people who will argue for this scenario, but they are dead wrong; the current high tensions are not similar to Saddam`s Osirik nuclear reactor, and an Israeli attack would have to be on a massive scale against Iran. Not only can Iran shoot back, but so can Syria and an Israeli assault would probably trigger a war of extermination in the region. Folks, this is going to be very bad if we continue to let matters drift. We can take serious steps now, or, like the Great Powers prior to both World Wars, we can let matters take their course until we do not have any options left. The price of both World Wars was terrible. Are we prepared to pay a similar cost?
Of course, too many here in America have plugged their fingers in their ears and are chanting ``I can`t hear you, I can`t hear you!`` at the top of their lungs, because they want matters to return to the pleasant inconsequentiality of the post-Cold War era, the time of a National Governor with arguments over socialized medicine and who is Bill putting it to this week. Children have the luxury of wishing bad things away. Being an adult means facing problems squarely. Unfortunately, the baby boom generation has taken over, the Peter Pan People, and this bunch has been even less willing to grow up than the wonder boy of Neverland. Here we are facing a possible takeover of Congress by a political party with absolutely no agenda except to reacquire power and with plans to screw our soldiers and the prosecution of the War, and Iran willfully test-fires a missile. They flipped us the bird here, and we will hear little about this because it doesn`t fit into the template of the current mindset.
That doesn`t exonerate the Bush Administration, which appears ever more rudderless and adrift. The Republicans wouldn`t be in this situation if they had continued to prosecute the war with vigor; it was the Bush Administration`s insistence on Democratization of Iraq which has caused the military to be bogged down fighting a defensive war against completely unscrupulous people. Syria and Iran continue to interfere in the war on behalf of the enemy, and if Bush had been aggressive about going after them the Iraqi theatre would be winding down. Thanks in no small part to treasonous reporting on the part of our ``free press`` many Americans perceive the war as a quagmire, whereas had we continued with an aggressive approach people would see something happening besides soldiers dying in sneak attacks. Bush`s ``duck and cover`` political strategy has wrought disaster.
Time is running out. A Democratic victory next week will accelerate the decline of our effectiveness, and things could spiral out of control fairly quickly. I fear that the current crop of leaders are incapable of taking the necessary steps, but the Democrats will do exactly as UBL predicted-cut and run and give our enemies a political victory. They did this in Vietnam, and they`ll do it again here. Of course, this time the enemy will follow us home and kill us.
We are on the brink, and Tuesday`s elections could be a fancy way to commit suicide.
More and more, the world situation mirrors 1914.

Well, said Tim! I couldn't agree more!
I'm voting for America's security and victory in the War on Terror. That means not one vote for Democrat appeasement.
