Suckers

The incomparable Michael Ledeen explains Iranian intervention in Iraq, and why our incompetent intelligence community keeps calling them insurgents.

I`ve said it before, and I`ll say it again; Iran and Syria are the reason why the ``insurgency`` in Iraq continues, and we are going to have to deal with them if we are to establish a stable Iraqi democracy. Whenever we launch major offensives, we always bomb groups along the Syrian border. Why? Because they are hiding in Syria (along with Saddam`s chemical weapons.) Meanwhile, Iran maintains a revolving door policy while forging onward with her nuclear program.

If we had handled things properly, we would have taken steps to foment revolution in Iran and Syria. Ronald Reagan did this with the Contra solution in Nicaragua; he gave aid and training to those who would overthrow the tyrannical regime. Revolutions do not occur spontaneously in totalitarian states; they have to be made. (Revolutions are not cases of one group taking power from another; rather, they are the result of the collapse of control by the rulers leaving a power vacuum into which steps the revolutionary group.) Iran has been poised for one for some time, but the Iranian people need our backing. Iran has been trying to destabilize Iraq-we should have been returning the favor. That we have failed to do this has meant that the ``insurgency`` has dragged on and on (thanks also to the traitorous behavior of the Democrats and news media). We should have been setting up a rebellion since our invasion of Iraq.

We are now faced with the possibility of a nuclear Iran. Once Iran goes nuclear, they will be able to blackmail the entire region and there will be little we can do to stop it. We must prevent this from happening! Iran has been the cornerstone of terrorism throughout the world, and the madmen who rule Iran will have no qualms about giving nuclear weapons to terrorists. Given our completely open borders, it would not be difficult for some holy warrior to obtain his seventy two virgins and a mule by taking out Los Angeles or Houston. Can we afford that? Will WE take out Tehran in retaliation?

We need to deal with this problem yesterday.

Hi Capzap!

I agree wholeheartedly!

I do think it was possible to build a Contra-style rebellion in Iran using expatriated Iranians armed and trained by Americans. This solution required time and money, and it is too late to pull this off now.

You are absolutely correct; the MSM shackles any efforts.

Great comment! Thanks!

Great column! Great comments. I too have been advocating fomenting an internal regime change in Iran, it's the only feasible option we have given the fact that Iran's nuclear capabilities are deeply buried and widely dispersed. It was done in Poland with Solidarity by the coordinated efforts of Maggie Thatcher, Ronald Reagan and the Pope, it was done in El Salvador and Nicaragua also by Reagan, it can be done in Iran where the vast majority of the young population hates the mullahs and their autocratic and anti-democratic rule. There may also be elements in the military who see Ahmadinejad's fantasizing of the his role as the ruler of a new world order as a little dangerous. Unfortunately, everything I hear from groups in touch with dissidents within Iran is that the U.S. has NO policy in place to aid pro-democracy forces. This is simply unacceptable and completely baffling. The administration's plan seems to be to hope for a regime change before Iran goes nuclear, or perhaps they are counting on Russia (old blue-eyes Pootie-Poot himself, the one with the deep, deep soul) to act as the moderating force. Good luck. Russia is not our friend and never will be. Great column -- I'll link it up!

It is time we sent forces into Iran and started to retaliate. If a bomb goes off in Iraq, one goes off in Iran - at a police station, a military facility, a nuclear processing center, a electrical utility (plant), and other tactical targets.

In the mountains, we should establish training camps for pro-democracy training.

I was involved with the contras and one of the most important things we did was to flood Nicaragua with the Bible, The Federalist Papers and the Declaration of Independence. John O'Steen helped with this project by translating these documents into spanish. We should do the same in Iran.

The Iraqi government should also put Iran on notice that if bombings by the criminals continue, there will be hell to pay - ditto Syria.

Start training Iraqi pilots with F-18 hornets and have them train over the skys of Iran, daring Iraq to respond.

There should be a pincer strategy from Afghanistan fielding an army to form on the eastern border of Iran with the same intentions of attacking, if activities continue in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Semper fidelis....

I've long wondered why we haven't bombed the terrorist training areas of Syria and Iran.

Taking out Iran's nuclear facilities may well be on the horizon.
