Here is a horrifing account in Front Page Mag by Robert Spencer of the fall of Constantinople in 1453 to the Ottoman Turks (isn`t it interesting that the last vestiges of the Roman Empire lasted until 39 years before Columbus!) As our good friend Aussiegirl points out, many of the forces which lead to the demise of the Byzantines are at work in our modern world.
