The Fall of Anthony's Weiner

Jack Kemp

Yes, another crude pun about the crude Congressman. I live in Weiner's New York district and while walking around my neighborhood yesterday at 5 pm, spotted a CBS television communications truck with the big antenna on top. Knowing it was only another five blocks or so to Weiner's apartment on Ascan (pronounced "ass can") Avenue, I walked over to find a gaggle of still photographers and two with video cameras standing watch. After speaking to them, I went home for my still camera. People in the neighborhood said that reporters had been there for three days straight. Weiner didn't get home by 7:45 pm, the time I left. I suspect he was sleeping in a hotel in Rockville, Maryland, or some such far away place.

I also got interviewed by Inside Edition and offered my opinion that it was a shame that a decent opposing candidate, a former Army officer and media executive, had to lose the 2010 election to Weiner. This may be shown on television today. Look for a 60ish guy with glasses and a black American Thinker baseball cap.

A number of the passersby on the street did ask me why there were all these photographers in front of this apartment house and were surprised to find out who their (in)famous neighbor was. I told some of the photographers and neighborhood people about the previous Weiner flap concerning the neoclassical semi-nude statue he considered "sexist" at the Queens County Borough Hall (across the street from one of his offices. This was Weiner's big issue of a few weeks ago while unemployment and mobs in Egypt raged. He wanted to sell the statue on Craig's List. Yes, Weiner is apparently knowledgeable about near naked images shown, hawked on the internet.

One commenter to the afternoon NY Daily News article, noting the photo of Weiner without a shirt in some place with many family photos in the background, said it seemed to be made in his Congressional office. When, months ago, Island Metro Productions filmed a segment of our 9/11 ten year anniversary documentary in the offices of Rep. Michael Grimm at the Cannon Office Building (House of Representatives) in Washington. The walls and general decor looked very much like that shown in the background of the Weiner photo. It is all so pathetic.

Now Nancy Pelosi is calling for an investigation of Cong. Weiner to see if he used Federal funds or property or privileges improperly. The Republicans can't turn down such an offer, but probably wish Weiner would continue his public rants right up until Election Day 2012. Pelosi, for her part, fears that Weiner's continued presence and loose cannon rantings could cost the Democrats an additional number of seats in Congress. I believe he already has cost them some seats - and exploits will not be forgotten on Election Day.

Radio host Michael Savage noted that Weiner didn't apologize to the US Congress. He may well have the opportunity to do that in the coming days and weeks.
