Obama's Con-Jobs Speech

Obama did not know that, nor did his teleprompter. He stated in his speech:

The New York Times transcript has the following quote;

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/09/us/politics/09text-obama-jobs-speech.html?pagewanted=6&_r=1

"We all remember Abraham Lincoln as the leader who saved our Union. Founder of the Republican Party. But in the middle of a civil war, he was also a leader who looked to the future -- a Republican President who mobilized government to build the Transcontinental Railroad -- (applause) -- launch the National Academy of Sciences, set up the first land grant colleges. (Applause.) And leaders of both parties have followed the example he set."

But how does it appear in the PBS transcript?

So PBS has purposely altered a transcript containing a major gaffe by the President.

Sure; we have a fair and balanced media!

At any rate, the speech was dull, the President was fast and loose without any specifics, the proposals were the thinnest cotton candy with no real plans. He suggested some decent tax cuts, but overwhelmed them with new spending and never offered any specifics. ThisG was not the unveiling of a plan but a campaign speech; Obama's rhetorical "pass this bill" was classic stump-speaking; there is no bill as yet.

At several points the GOP snickered, and at one point broke out in open laughter. Good; it's high time.

This is more of the same promises that have yet to be kept. Why doesn't Obama spend the money left from the last stimulus? There is still a fair amount of it out there. But he is campaigning, and he knows that the only hope he has is for Christmas to come early and often.

But we've already learned that he isn't about fixing our problems so much as using them; never let a good crisis go to waste.

I don't think the President did himself any favors last night.
