Steve K. Rankin, 64, died August 21, 2011 at home of cancer. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lakewood Memorial Park South. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland.Survivors include: longtime companion, Paulette Dunkin of Jackson; sister, Rebecca Clay of Millbrook, AL; aunts, Jewel Cooper of Jackson; Genella Doucet of Taylor, TX; uncle; Melvin Trawick of Vinton, LA; 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
End
I had been worried about Steve; I hadn't heard from him in months. But he had become less than communicative after being diagnosed with cancer, and I had my own health problems and so was unable to really hunt for him. Michael Morrison, our old friend, had feared the worst, and was proven right. I wish we had learned of Steve's death back in August.
Steve was one of the originals here, along with Michael, with Aussiegirl, with Craig and Tom Willms, with Mike and others (apologies if I left anyone out). He was a brilliant man, a tremendous political handicapper and his knowledge of politics was second to none. He will be sorely missed.
Everyone should keep Steve in your prayers.
