The Trouble With Africa
(Click the Header)
Publius Pundit has a post about the the rigging of the Zimbabwean elections, and about the president of South Africa`s less than concerned attitude towards vote fraud. As I pointed out in the comments section, this is at the root of the troubles in sub-Saharan Africa; lack of an honest, effective electoral system leads to civil wars which are at the root of all of the poverty and suffering throughout the Continent. That President Mbeki dismisses a stolen election by Mugabe as unimportant shows that he is a huge part of the problem, and that the problems are not going away anytime soon. Rhodesia was the breadbasket of Africa, but now as Zimbabwe it has become one more corrupt, impoverished hellhole. Considering South Africa`s President`s views, how far behind Zimbabwe can they be?
