Who predicted that the Democrats would not unleash the Horsemen of the Apocalypse over John Roberts? Who said the wise course for them was to wait, while the wise course for Republicans was to nominate a true conservative and provoke the coming war now?

One afternoon prior to the announcement of John Roberts as the nominee I was listening to Michael Medved speculate on who the nominee might be. He suggested somewhat fatuously that the president should nominate Ann Coulter. She is after all a licensed D.C. attorney, a noted constitutional scholar, she also clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist when he was an associate justice, so she is not without qualification for the post albeit some would call them a bit thin. Her conservation credentials are unquestionable even trending towards extreme in some cases. She would even pass Sandra Day O’Connor’s “Vagina” requirement. John Roberts cannot, for even with his impressive résumé, he is not a woman and that was extremely disappointing to her when he was finally named as the nominee.
I roared with laughter imagining Ted Kennedy and Patrick Leahy grilling her at a confirmation hearing. Even as a sacrificial candidate nominating someone like Ann would be worth it if only for the pure entertainment value of watching the democrats spit and sputter while Ann’s razor sharp tongue cut them to ribbons. CSPAN ratings would go through the roof for those hearings.
