EU Passes Resolution Banning “Homophobia” 468 -149
By Terry Vanderheyden
STRASBOURG, January 19, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Members of the European Union passed a resolution Wednesday to ban all so-called homophobia within its member states. The resolution passed by a significant majority – 468 in favour, 149 against and 41 abstentions.
Among other things, the resolution called for action against member states who fail to implement programs directed at fair treatment of homosexuals in employment and occupation, and to “ensure that same-sex partners enjoy the same respect, dignity and protection as the rest of society.”
Polish MEP Konrad Szymanski called the debate a “waste of time.” “Member states have their legal instruments to protect the rights of their citizens, and there is no need to organise some sort of union to protect homosexuals, as it would – quite on the contrary – undermine European integration,” he said.
Franco Frattini, EU commissioner for justice, freedom and security riled homosexual activists when he suggested that a resolution was unnecessary. He argued that the European Community already has the power to prosecute hatred against homosexuals through Article 13 of its Treaty on discrimination. Discrimination is already “expressly forbidden” by the Treaty, he said, adding that the Commission would continue to “fight against homophobia and discrimination based on sexual orientation.”
One commentator, former MEP and homosexual rights advocate, Joke Swiebel, commended Christians and conservatives, who she referred to as “lunatics,” for not being more vocal against the resolution. “Another positive point is that the lunatic fringe was apparently very silent,” she said. “It does not pay anymore to shout against gays and lesbians in the Parliament itself.”

The biggest threat to homosexuals in Europe is from Islam. Yet Islam is promoted, encouraged and assuaged by these very same folk trying to end discrimination against homosexuality - so weird. The answer is more individualism.
I'm not sure I'm understanding your post. Do you have a problem with them wanting to protect homosexuals?
Leelion, you are correct; Islam is a far greater threat to homosexuals. The Europeans have lost their minds.
Hi Esther!
I`m not saying that homosexuals don`t have the right to be secure in their persons or beliefs. My point isn`t about homosexuals at all; it`s about the enshrinement of political correctness into Law at the expense of basic liberties. I`m saying that Europe is repressing freedom of thought, speech, etc. for liberal political concepts. Equality under the law means just that-but ``hate crimes``, ``xenophobia``, etc. make some more equal than others-and this can only be accomplished through restrictions on the liberty of others. P.C. is terribly repressive.
Here are the weasle words:
Among other things, the resolution called for action against member states who fail to implement programs directed at fair treatment of homosexuals in employment and occupation, and to “ensure that same-sex partners enjoy the same respect, dignity and protection as the rest of society.”
In other words, if someone opposes homosexuality on religious grounds the force of law will bear down on them. Much of Europe is Catholic, and that means the Vatican is ``homophobic``. Are they going to arrest the Pope? Under such a regulation, they could.
Does that mean that a Christian day care must hire blatant, political homosexuals to care for the children? Yes. Does that mean that someone can be arrested for campaigning against homosexual sex in public restrooms? I don`t see why not.
This type of law will stretch as far as anyone wants to stretch it. Remember Bridgit Bardot? She served jail time for Xenophobia because she thought Europe should restrict the number of Moslems coming in-and she expressed that sentiment publicly. Such restrictions on speech (and thought) are better suited to a totalitarian state and Der Fuehrer or Uncle Joe would feel at home with them. Now the Euro-monster wants to extend this to `sexual orientation`.
The Papacy is going to have to move to America. Maybe they can settle in New Orleans; that would give the city a tremendous boost!
Meanwhile, as Leelion pointed out, Europe has one more reason for hanging an `out-of-business` sign and the future Islamic Republic of Europe is assured.
