The Weiner Parody that Isn't

Jack Kemp

I was going to write a parody song about Anthony Weiner based on the 1950s classic "The Great Pretender" by the Platters. But when I looked at the lyrics, I realized I couldn't update/improve the words to make them any better or more profound than they are, just crasser.

For those of you too young to have heard this classic in the 1950s - and for those of you haven't heard this performed in decades - watch this treat, complete with lyrics on the screen, at YouTube.

P.S. For those younger people reading this, the term "gay" didn't become associated with homosexuality until about 1970. This song is from 1955 and uses the old dictionary definition meaning, "happy, lighthearted," etc.
