it is an excellent piece, save for the "extreme right is Hitlerian" conflation - this is false.
Why is Hitler and right wing considered to be the same? Hitler was a national socialist; that form of government was focused on the state & not the individual, they did not believe in God, etc., in other words, Hitler was a totalitarian leftist.
How this came to be can be traced to the early stages of World War II - when Hitler invaded Russia, Stalin only then labelled him as being the vicious enemy and opposite of the Russian Communist state. Our own American leftists, seeing their god thus wrongly betrayed (by what had formerly been a Hitler who was defending Germany against the right wing, capitalistic Brits & Franks), accordingly now labelled Hitler as an "extreme right wing monster". Evidently, the label has stuck, even among a large number of our academics.
