War and Peace

Here are a few quotes on war from the Federalist Patriot:

``Peace is not the absence of war, but a virtue based on strength of character.``

Spinoza

``The surest way to prevent war is not to fear it.``

John Randolph

``Pacifism, self-hatred and complacency are lengthening the war against radical Islam and causing undue casualties. Only after absorbing catastrophic human and property losses will left-leaning Westerners likely overcome this triple affliction and confront the true scope of the threat. The civilized world will likely then prevail, but belatedly and at a higher cost than need have been.``

Daniel Pipes

``They say that those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it. Pensively, anxiously, the people of the United States and Iraq—as well as students of history from around the world—wait to see if the newly elected majority in the U.S. Congress bring with them the wisdom that only history can provide.``

Frank Salvato

Liberals believe in the inherent goodness of Man; this is one of their fundamental axioms. If Man is inherently good, then bad things like War or poverty are aberrational effects of honest mistakes made, or are the fruits of those who would oppose their enlightened worldview for personal gain. No one wants war, their reasoning goes, except the oil companies, Bush anCheneyey, and a few other Republican profiteers. That this contradicts human history is immaterial-war has traditionally been seen as a glorious and exciting time, one where young men could prove their valor, launch themselves on life`s better path, and enjoy the benefits of wine, women, and song. Human beings generally have a lust for power and for the feeding of their egos; this we Christians title Original Sin. Only in recent years, with the triumph of Judea-Christian principles of mercy and forbearance along with the increasing deadliness of modern weaponry, has the concept which William Tecumseh Sherman eloquated-``War is Hell``-been accepted and believed. That, I might add, is still not true throughout the world, and the Islamic nations still harbor a romantic view of the glories of warfare and martyrdom.

But this doesn`t fit the template held by liberals (and pacifists in general) who believe they can reason with the enemy, show them we mean them no harm, and skip off together arm-in-arm for a mocha latte at Starbucks. Nobody wants War! If we have enemies it is not because we have people who want to dominate us, who want to grind our fat, wealthy noses in the dust of Sharia because we beat them out of Spain and Austria, and because their system produces nothing but despotism, poverty, and ruin while our Christian infidelities have brought success, wealth, and victory, but because we were mean to them and they have no recourse but to blow up innocent women and children. It`s because we steal their oil (by buying it at high prices, thus infusing cash into their impoverished economies), we invade their territory by settling Jews on land they had previously (and still did) occupied and which Mark Twain referred to as absolutely desolate of human population, it is because we attacked them during the Crusades (ignoring the 500 years of Islamic aggression against Europe).

This complete divorcement from reality, this lack of understanding that this is not Romper Room and we simply have to play nice, permeates liberal thinking, and blinds them to the grave danger posed by a culture determined to reassert it`s military dominion over what it sees as infidels. Liberals, more than anyone, have reason to fear Sharia, but they have been at war with Christianity (and have virtually destroyed Christian influence in our culture and society) that they will glom onto any enemy of Christ. There is an old Arab proverb; the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Liberals are, just as they did witAdolphlf Hitler, supporting the forces which will destroy them in years to come. Christians never bore the kind of animosity that Islam bears towards freedom of thought, yet they rabidly defend the Jihadists in their insane quest to destroy the last vestiges of Christendom.

As the Bible says, ``as ye sew, so shall ye reap``; the left in this country has sewn the seeds of terrible wrath to thunder down on them.

Furthermore, by opposing our efforts in Iraq and elsewhere they are dragging the entire war out-something they claim they do not want. Wars are won on firm resolve, and the left has given the enemy every reason to believe that they can win politically what they cannot hope to win militarily. Our unsure actions, our tentative moves, are destined to garner worldwide contempt for our weakness. You don`t fight wars by trying to be loved. You can be magnanimous in victory-as we were after the Second World War-but first you have to achieve this victory, and that the left will not allow. So this war smolders on because of our timidity.

We will not have peace until we come together (along with others of good will) and demand it in no uncertain terms; by attacking and destroying the forces of darkness, the evildoers who strike in the night, the brigands who steal peace from the Earth. There is no reasoning with these people, no bargaining or working out of our differences; these are men absolutely determined to crush us. They have to be taught in no uncertain terms that we will not tolerate this, and that the wages of their sins are sure death. The sooner they-and we-figure this out, the faster this world war will end.

Indeed, the absence of war is not peace.
