The Sunny Side of the Street

Variable energy output from the Sun explains the Earth`s climate cycles, according to this study by Robert Ehrlich at George Mason University.

The standard model maintains that the Sun`s interior is relatively stable, and that the ice-age/interglacial periods are driven by Milankovitch cycles; variations (wobbles,if you like) in the Earth`s orbit. It occurs to me that Milankovitch cycles might be driven in part by variations in the Sun`s magnetic field and the Solar Wind, so that these two effects work in tandem to drive glaciation.

At any rate, this is just one more piece of research suggesting that our old friend the Sun is at the root of Climate behavior.

From my reading at The Australian this may be an issue that will be in their forefront of debate and decide an election. They figure $96 billion(Australian) to fix their CO2 emissions and nobody as yet to put figures out how much it will cost the consumer. Sad that a theory with little or no facts is demanding so much attention and real issues are being sidelined.

Thanks Mike!

It just astounds me that this P.T. Barnum flea circus has become what it is, that millions of people really believe this is happening and are willing to impoverish themselves to ``save the planet``. We`ve seen this type of hysteria before, but never on such a scale-they sold ``comet pills`` when Haley`s comet passed time before last, you had Orson Wells` War of the Worlds, etc. The last time we witnessed such groundheaving based on bad science was the Nazi movement. Considering some of the rumblings we`ve heard from GW types (Nuremburg trials for skeptics, disbarring skeptical meteorologists, etc.) I wonder how long it will take to get to that point. Rome wasn`t built in a day, and neither was Fascism/Nazism; both were `founded` by small groups but the intellectual undercurrents were there for decades.

Of course, there is an expiration date on this; they can only get so much mileage out of it. If what a those who believe solar variability think is correct, we are entering a cooling trend in our current cycle-it`s going to become increasingly difficult to play this little charade.

I would love to see what history books have to say about this in 2107!
