The U.N.`s Mental Onanism

The U.N. Security Council is holding hearings to figure out ways to keep WMD`s out of the hands of terrorists.

Funny, if they would have given us any cooperation in Iraq, and would take a real, firm stand against Iran now, they wouldn`t need need this debate. Of course, the U.N. does nothing BUT debate, and act to restrain those who want to do something about the problem. They are the intellectual equivelent of internet porn Johns-always seeking to take matters into their own hands yet failing to bear any fruit.

In my opinion, the United Nations is worse than useless and it`s high time we withdraw from this waste of good parking space in New York.

Superb double-entendres, Tim! I wish I had thought of them, alas.

I have long been perplexed about the UN---its fatuousness, corruption, impotence, arrogance, anti-Semitism, America hatred and on and on. It is a club for tyrants and rapists of Congolese pubescent girls. Its waste is legendary, its documents breathtakingly boring. Why are we there? Could we not send the thing to Paris?

This chancre sits right in the heart of New York like some squat and leprous toad, yet we tolerate it. Why?

Imagine if the Roman Republic around, say, 200 BC had allowed a permanent embassy from Carthage and Macedon and the Seleucids to set up shop in the Forum. Now imagine that embassy to be dreadfully and visibly anti-Roman. Now imagine that it demanded that Rome pay for the homes for its ambassadors on Palatine Hill.

Absurd. Rome was s serious power and was taken as such by all states in the ancient world. States approached her with fear and respect---two very related things in the realm of International Politics.

What do other nations think of the US when she allows such as the UN to set up shop on her shores? If these nations who so loudly proclaim America hatred from their roof tops put their euros where their mouths are, they would simply depart. But they do not.

It is almost intolerable, a worse situation than the ridiculous ‘open borders’ policy of both parties.

Where can one go for succor or a dash of reason in our affairs foreign and domestic?

Why should the UN assist in Iraq? The US went into a SOVEREIGN nation with permission from the world body and attacked it. Clean up you own damn mess!!!

Mike, I couldn`t agree with you more!

Oh, I loved your descriptive terms; chancre, leprous toad, etc.! And you`re right; it IS amazing that we let this infestation succour at Uncle Sam`s copuous teat all the while insulting us and actively working against us.

Sigh! Anonymous, you put me to the trouble of rehashing these things.

First, we have been at war with Iraq since the Kuwait invasion. Iraq was regularly shooting at our aircraft, they tried to assassinate former President Bush, payed $25,000 to the families of suicide bombers in Israel, etc. The United Nations had numerous resolutions and demands, yet was always unwilling to back those resolutions with any concrete action. President Clinton, citing the same intelligence as W. Bush, prepared to take the exact same actions against a nation which had signed an armistice yet broke every provision of their agreement. Furthermore, they had attempted genocide against their Kurdish minority, using weapons which they had agreed to destroy as part of the cease-fire. Legally we had every right to invade Iraq based on established military precedent; we were enforcing the U.N.`s own resolutions!

But that`s neither here nor there; the whole point is that the deed is done, and if the U.N. is actually serious about peace and about keeping WMD`s out of the hands of terrorists they would support our efforts now. That they are being small-minded babies, that they are more eager to see us fail than to obey their charter and try to keep the peace speaks volumes about their sincerity. They have the means to stop terrorists acquiring WMD`s, but they won`t use it.
