PBS BS at AT
Timothy Birdnow
Barack Obama - and his speechwriters - think Abraham Lincoln founded the Republican Party.
In the President's speech on his jobs Bill, er, suggestion, Obama made a statement calling Lincoln "the founder of the Republican Party". This is not true; Lincoln joined the Republicans in 1856, two years after the Party was founded. He was not even the first Presidential candidate they ran (that was John C. Fremont). It was a gaffe, an historically inaccurate statement by a man largely ignorant of history.
That's why PBS had to cover it up.
