Halloran Hosts Queens Screening of 9/11 Documentary

A crowd of New Yorkers gathered at the Flushing Town Hall last night to watch the Queens screening of the 9/11 documentary “9/11: Reflections Then and Now,” hosted by Council Member Dan Halloran (R-Whitestone).

The film, directed by Long Island filmmaker Jeff Bruzzo, highlights the survivors and the victims’ family and friends of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City, and reflects on how the City should move forward from here, ten years after the tragedy.

“It’s incredible to think it’s been a decade since that terrible day,” Halloran said. “I’m taking the ten-year anniversary of 9/11 as a day to reflect on the loved ones we lost and remember the bravery of our first responders. This film shows us how far we’ve come as a City and a nation, and reminds us how far we still have to go.”

Halloran is one of 12 featured participants in the film. The Council Member lost his cousin, FDNY Lieutenant Vincent Halloran, in the Twin Towers that day.
Since his election, Halloran has been a leading supporter of the FDNY, NYPD and all first responders, including calling for the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 to be expanded to include cancer treatment.
“History has a habit of being lost or changed,” Bruzzo said. “I set the record straight with this film for future generations.”

Notables in attendance included Council Member Peter Koo (R-Flushing) and Community Board 11 Chairman Jerry Iannece.

“I want to thank Flushing Town Hall and its director, Ellen Kodadek, for hosting this screening,” Halloran said. “By bringing this event to Flushing, we paid a fitting tribute to the 3,000 Americans who lost their lives on that tragic day.”
