Operation Reichstag Fire

Timothy Birdnow

On February 27, 1933 the German parliament house - called the Reichstag - burned to the ground. A poor Dutch passerby - Marinus van der Lubbe - was found at the scene and promptly arrested (and later executed) for the crime. German Chancellor Adolf Hitler and his fat stooge Herman Goring (then Prussian Minister) arrived on the scene and immediately accused the Communists of setting the fire. It is now generally believed that the Nazis themselves set the fire, with the SA Sondergruppe of Reinhard Heydrich along with Kurt Daluge being the guilty parties. But Hitler had his excuse, and he managed to bully a decrepid German President Hindenberg into signing emergency orders suspending civil rights. Hitler went on a rampage, arresting over 4000 communists and other political enemies. Germany turned from a Democratic Republic into a police state.

Hitler was still unable to win a two thirds majority, despite his ability to arrest his political opponents, so he sent his Brownshirts into districts where he was weak, to sew chaos and justify the use of his new emergency powers. He simply replaced the governments of states that opposed him. In the end, the Enabling Act ended up the law of the land, and Hitler became supreme despot of what had once been the most enlightened state in Europe.

At best, the Reichstag fire represented Rahm Emmanuel's admonition to "never let a good crisis go to waste". Hitler turned a fire (likely set by his own people) to his benefit, making himself more powerful than any Kaiser had ever been.

Which brings us to Operation Gunrunner and Fast and Furious.

Dianne Feinstein has used this Obama abomination to call for national gun control

That was, of course, the whole point of this program. The DOJ sought to create a Reichstag fire, with weapons pouring into the hands of violent criminals thus justifying the seizure of firearms from law-abiding Americans. There were ancillary purposes as well; the Administration could use this to justify a sense of grievance against America by Hispanics, thus cementing them to their side. It could be used to demand martial law in parts of the Southwest where this chaos was running rampant. It could be used to demand aid for Mexico, and a demand to keep the borders open. But first and foremost it was designed to force gun control.

Gun control is the key to consolidating power, and one of the first steps taken by any tyrant. As George Mason observed "...to disarm the people - that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them."

And we all know this. I am hardly unique in bringing this point up about Fast and Furious, yet Feinstein says;

“My concern, Mr. Chairman, is that there’s been a lot said about Fast and Furious, and perhaps mistakes were made,” Feinstein said. “But I think this hunt for blame doesn’t really speak about the problem. And the problem is, anybody can walk in and buy anything.”

So, the Left presses on with their plan despite being caught red-handed.

Nobody just "walked in"; they were allowed to do so by authorities on purpose. They created a situation which guaranteed that drug cartels would obtain these weapons for the purpose of blaming gun laws to get them changed. In short, this is the Reichstag fire.

We have a very bad bunch in power in this country.
